Department of Language Education

The Department of Language Education at HANDONG GLOBAL UNIVERSITY, located in Pohang, South Korea, invites applications for professors of English for contractual positions for the fall semester of 2010. We are looking for candidates who have a strong commitment to life-long learning in language education and demonstrate a firm commitment to Christ.

Native-speaking professors of English with a Master’s degree and at

least 1.5 years of university teaching experience OR with Bachelor’s degrees and at least 4.5 years of university teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates whose degrees are in TESOL or Applied Linguistics

Professors are hired for one- or two-year renewable contracts.

Teach 16 class hours per semester. Maintain office hours. Actively

participate in committee and department meetings. Assist in placement

testing of students. Teach HGU team-leadership classes.

Spring and fall semesters are each 16 weeks long. Teachers need to be on

campus approximately 2 weeks before the semester begins and must attend

the HGU Faculty Retreat. Teachers must teach a 3-week class, during either

winter or summer break, if called upon to do so and will be paid overtime

for this class.

Those in DLE teach primarily undergraduate academic English classes during the daytime. In addition, DLE professors may teach in the Industrial Education/Social Education program (IE/SE) which primarily consists of adult students seeking university degrees. The IE/SE classes require some night teaching.

a. Salary: MA candidates with 1.5 years of post-degree university teaching

experience will begin with a yearly salary of 33,348,000 won with incremental increases for each additional year of teaching experience. BA

candidates with 4.5 years of post-degree university teaching experience

will begin at 21,600,000 won per year with incremental increases for each

additional year of teaching experience.

b. Semi-furnished, apartment-style housing provided on campus. You pay a

monthly maintenance fee of 65,000 won and also basic utilities.

c. Paid vacation (12 weeks)

e. Pension program

f. Airfare reimbursement up to 1,200,000 won for initial relocation costs
