Application Procedure


Applicants are encouraged to prepare ahead of time the required items for each level.


Level 1 Applicant

Mail the following documents to the address below: 
Search Committee

a. Faculty Application Form (Download Here
b. Curriculum Vitae
c. Copies of your undergraduate and graduate transcripts 
d. Copies of your diplomas
e. A letter from each school where you have taught verifying the time that you were employed by that school 
f. Two letters of recommendation
g. Teaching video (preferable) or series of lesson plans
Applications must be received no later than May 11, 2009.

Applications will be reviewed and Level 2 applicants notified.

Level 2 Applicant

Interviews will be conducted by phone or on campus.

Employment notification will follow interviews.

Level 3 – Contract and Visa Issuance

For contract and visa issuance, the following must be mailed to HGU.
1. Two sets each of your original undergraduate and graduate transcripts. You will need to request that your college/university mail two sets of transcripts (in two separate sealed envelopes) to Handong Global University (one set for Handong University and the other for the Korean Immigration Department).
2. Original Diplomas (which will be returned).
3. A copy of the first two pages of your passport. Also, copies of your marriage certificate, and birth certificate(s) of children (in case of accompanying family members).
4. 2 Photos: size 3X4 CM.
5. 2 sets of Personal Background Check (criminal record) with an apostille. In countries which do not recognize the apostille, the document must be legalized by a Korean consular officer in the country which issued the document. Canadians must prepare the document with the Vulnerable Sector Screening.  
6. Medical Check List (Download Here) for those with E2 visa
7. If you are working in Korea, a release letter from current employer.

New Employee Information


Contract and Visa 

Contract – After receiving your contract (this may be by email), you should print, sign, and then fax it to HGU as soon as possible. Fax #: +82-54-260-1079
HGU will need 1-2 weeks after they receive this to acquire the necessary Certification for Confirmation of Visa Issuance (CVI) from immigration.

After your CVI is acquired, HGU will send it to you.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Especially for those traveling from the US or Canada, you should plan to get your ticket as soon as possible after you have signed your contract. This should be one month prior to leaving for Korea for winter recruits and three months prior to departure for summer recruits.

Visa – After receiving the CVI from Handong, you will need to apply for your teaching visa at the
nearest Korean Consulate. Visa guidelines, application, and list of consulates for US citizens are available at 

For your teaching visa, be sure to take or send to the consulate all of the following:
1. completed application form including picture
2. CVI from HGU
3. passport
4. applicable fee

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do not have your teaching visa when you enter Korea, you will have to enter on a tourist 30 day visa. Before this tourist visa expires, you will have to leave Korea and travel to China or Japan to get your teaching visa. This travel is done at your own expense. It is best to initially enter Korea with your teaching visa.
 
Documents To Bring to Korea 
Proof of Residency (applicable to those from U.S., Australia, England, and New Zealand). This document is for your tax benefit. In U.S. IRS issues this document. 

Documents To Get after Your Arrival in Korea

1.   Official physical examination from Sunlin Hospital in Pohang.  
2.   Alien Registration Card from Pohang Immigration Office.

Important Date

Arrival on campus should be no later than 2 weeks prior to the first day of classes due to the New Faculty Orientation and HGU Faculty Retreat.
